A message from the library

Hey Belleview book lovers, the library may be physically closed, but we still have books available online!  Our subscription to Overdrive includes thousands of ebooks and audiobooks.  There are fiction and non-fiction books for kids of any reading level.  You can check out up to five books at a time.  Even if there are fines or overdue books on your student’s account, they should still be able to check out on Overdrive.

Most of our Overdrive books have one or two digital copies, but we also have unlimited access to hundreds of items.  Just a quick browse through the Unlimited Access for Elementary collection showed me a bunch of books Belleview kids will love, such as

Ada Twist, Scientist

Diary of a Wimpy Kid

El Deafo

Football and Its Greatest Players

You Can Draw books

Greek Gods and Goddesses

Just a few of the popular books available outside of the unlimited access collection include:

Pete the Cat

Scaredy Squirrel

Captain Underpants

Magic Tree House

Star Wars Jedi Battles

Carl Hiaasen books (Hoot, Flush, Scat, & Chomp)

Dork Diaries

Harry Potter

Erin Hunter’s Warriors series

To use Overdrive: see  Overdrive Student Instructions

* log in to the student’s account at my.cherrycreekschools.org

* select the myLibrary tab at the bottom

* click on the Overdrive icon

* log in with the student’s computer username (active directory) and student ID number

* find, borrow, and enjoy your book!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions:  whardman@cherrycreekschools. org

This Week at Belleview: March 25, 2020

A letter from Belleview’s Principle – John Cramer…

Dear Belleview Community,

I just want to start off by saying “Hi” to all of you. I know I can speak for all the teachers at Belleview in saying we miss your children. We miss their smiles, hugs and fist bumps. Like Dr. Seigfried wrote in his letter, I want to thank all of you for your patience and support as we navigate through these uncharted waters together. We had a virtual staff meeting yesterday morning and I came away in awe of all the teacher’s high level of commitment to ensure that your children will have an amazing experience the next couple of weeks. As we start getting ready for the beginning of remote learning next week, I want to share some information with you.

Remote Learning Information:

 Teachers are working this week to prepare to shift to a remote learning model. They have been gathering resources, brushing up on remote learning lesson delivery, and thinking about what students need to be successful online.

 Expect to receive information from your child’s teachers by Thursday.

 Remote learning begins Monday, March 30th. Assignments will be shared by 2:00 pm.

District Resource Information:

 As we begin, if your child does not have access to technology, please let us know right away. Click on this Technology Needs Survey: https://www.surveygizmo.com/s3/5515092/CCSD-Remote-Learning-Technology-Needs-Survey so we can assess your technology needs. You can email Marie Stevenson at mstevenson7@cherrycreekschools.org or call the school voicemail 720-554-3120. In the message please leave these important details: parent first and last name, student(s) first and last name, phone #, address, student(s)date of birth, and whether you have/have no internet AND computer at home.

 Mental Health support can be found at https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/Page/12094

 Breakfast, Lunch, and a Book will continue for all children 18 and under. Click the link for times and locations. https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/freemeals

 Additional information can be found at Coronavirus FAQ’s

As we begin this journey together, I am asking that we all have grace for each other at all levels. We are asking our families, students and staff to create something that has never been done before. If you have questions or concerns, please email your child’s teacher or me and we will get back to you as soon as we can.

Hug your children for us and stay healthy

– John

also…A letter from Dr. Scott A.Siegfried…

Dear Cherry Creek School Community,

The world is a dramatically different place than it was just weeks ago. I want to thank all of you for your patience and support as we navigate the new uncharted territory of this COVID-19 pandemic crisis. My team and I continue to meet virtually every single day to monitor the situation, review updates from public health officials and find ways to meet the needs of our 55,000 students.

As we enter this first week after spring break, I wanted to share information on our current planning regarding multiple items:

REMOTE LEARNING:

The Cherry Creek School District will begin remote learning for all students on Monday, March 30, 2020. Our teachers will spend this week acquiring materials and preparing for the delivery of instruction. Our goal is to ensure that lessons are reasonable and meaningful so that students can remain engaged and learning can continue during this time. You or your students will hear from your child’s teachers by Thursday or Friday, March 26th & 27th, with information about their learning plan.

We are committed to creating a remote learning plan that serves all students and provides a reasonable balance for you, your student and their teacher. As part of our planning, we are considering ways to ensure that all students have access to technology and internet service in their homes. We will be sending out a survey via text and email to identify families that are in need of technology in the home.

We are also working on plans to meet the needs of our students who receive special education, English language supports and gifted and talented supports. We will have more information on those plans in the coming days.

It will take some time for teachers to master the use of online instructional technologies and models. Additionally, teachers will need to adjust lesson plans to make learning meaningful and accessible within an age-appropriate remote learning environment. Some of our teachers currently offer assignments and activities online, but that is significantly different than moving all teacher-based instruction and learning to a remote learning environment. We are doing our best to design and implement a new way of teaching and learning in CCSD. Your principal and teachers will provide detail.

I am asking our teachers to shift what has been purposefully developed as a brick-and-mortar operation for the last 70 years into a remote learning environment in four days. I ask for your patience, grace and support as we enter this new phase of excellence in Cherry Creek together.

FOOD BANKS

I am thankful for our Board of Education who has taken the lead on collecting food items for several local food banks that we have agreed to work with in support of our community.  If you are in need of support or are able to support others in our community, more information is available here: https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/Page/12126

BREAKFAST, LUNCH AND A BOOK

Every school day throughout the closure we will provide grab-and-go meals for any and all students 18 and under at 11 sites around the district. For information on sites and times – https://www.cherrycreekschools.org/site/Default.aspx?PageID=12101

EMERGENCY RELIEF FUND

The Cherry Creek Schools Foundation, in coordination with the district, has established the Cherry Creek Schools Emergency Relief Fund to aid our students, families and local communities during this crisis. During this continually changing situation, the Foundation is working closely with us to monitor and respond to the areas of greatest need and utilize this fund to help our students, teachers and staff navigate these uncertain times. For information on how to donate to the fund visit https://ccsdfoundation.org/cherry-creek-schools-emergency-relief-fund.html

I have so much confidence in and admiration for our employees – our maintenance staff, bus drivers, office staff, food and nutrition workers, administrators and teachers. I am also in awe of the resilience of our students and the strength and resolve of people and families in our community. I am inspired by the stories I have heard of people helping people during this time of crisis.

We will get through this together. Stay safe. Stay healthy.

Scott A. Siegfried, Ph.D.
Superintendant

Thanksgiving Meal Box Update

[Hidden image]

We couldn’t be more pleased to announce that as a result of the Belleview community’s efforts, more than 85 Thanksgiving Meal Boxes were delivered to families this year!  A handful of the boxes were delivered to Belleview families. The vast majority of the Meal Boxes, however, were delivered to a nearby CCSD elementary school, where the student body is comprised of a largely low-income population and one that relies heavily on free and reduced-price school meals to ensure that they have breakfast and/or lunch during the school week.

Food is unquestionably a need for these families. Our contact at the school indicated that each and every family is “incredibly grateful” and that the receipt of the Meal Box is often met with tears of gratitude. We are hopeful that this knowledge reiterates the significant effect that your family’s participation has had on the lives of others.

Thank you to the Belleview students and families who donated nonperishables, entire Meal Boxes and/or gift cards. A special thank you to the Philanthropy Club students and parents, Ms. Glenn and the Belleview Student Council, and Belleview teachers and front office staff for the extra effort to make this year’s event a success.

“SOFT START” ANNOUNCEMENT, starting Dec 2nd Monday
Introduction of a “Soft Start” to the school day – starts Monday, December 2.
After many discussions with parents and staff members, we are pleased to be introducing a “soft start” to the school day at Belleview Elementary. This means beginning Monday, December 2 students will go straight to their classrooms at 7:50; there will no longer be any students lining up on playground or in the front of the building at the start of the school day.

We are hoping to get enough funds to cover the entire meal.  If you would like to donate, please go to https://staff-appreciation- lunch-26253.cheddarup.com

Thank you for supporting the wonderful teachers and staff at Belleview!
