Did you know that Belleview Elementary is a Wellness Leadership School for our school district?
“The goals of the Cherry Creek School District’s Comprehensive Wellness Strategy are to address barriers to student achievement and to develop skills that support lifelong healthy living. This is achieved through implementation of programs and practices that support the physical and psychological health of your students and develop the whole child.”
Each school year, your Belleview Wellness Committee works to develop programs and activities with these goals in mind. The activities fall under the following categories: Physical Activity: for example, our Belleview Running Club, Brain Breaks in the classroom, grant money for classroom movement items such as standing desks and Hoki stools, Turkey Trot, Red Shirt Rookies program, Walk to School Days. Psychological Wellness: Read 4 Health and Peaceful Schools in 2nd grade. Family/Community/Student Involvement: we have 3 community members on our committee in addition to 5 staff members, implementing a student focus group this year to look at recess equipment and culture. Nutrition: implemented a Wellness Treasure box with trinket prizes in lieu of food rewards, Go, Slow, Whoa curriculum, we have recess before lunch. Staff Wellness: participate in district wide challenges, Weigh and Win, fresh fruit delivery for staff. Environmental Wellness: Safe Routes to School Project.
Your Belleview Wellness Committee members are Jan Brainard, Carrie Glenn, Rhonda Griffin, Jill Mauck, Molly McKanna, Nancy Schwartz, Pam Smith and Bre Williams.
